April 05, 2023 (MLN): The local bourse on Wednesday observed strong buying activity as investors welcomed the decision of SBP to raise the policy rate by only 100 bps against the market consensus of 200 bps. 

However, the ongoing political melancholy has kept the investors' interest subdued in the later hours of the trading which led the benchmark KSE100 index to gain only 29.89 points to close at 39,717.15.

The Index traded in a range of 239.87 points or 0.60 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 39,904.75 and a low of 39,664.88.

Of the 94 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 42 closed up 47 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 39.54 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Miscellaneous with 17 points, Chemical with 10 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 8 points, Insurance and Technology & Communication with 7 points.

The most points added to the index were by HBL which contributed 16 points followed by PSEL with 13 points, HUBC with 11 points, EPCL with 8 points and SYS with 7 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Food & Personal Care Products with 14 points, Fertilizer with 8 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 7 points, Commercial Banks and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 4 points.

The most points taken off the index was by OGDC which stripped the index of 13 points followed by HMB, BAHL and ENGRO with 10 points and FCEPL with 7 points.

All Share Volume increased by 3.47mn to 86.72mn shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs5.37 billion.

The total companies traded were 306 compared to 295 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 136 closed up, 140 closed down and 30 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 4,134 to 44,355.

Value Traded increased by 0.25bn to Rs2.44bn.
