PSX Closing Bell: Black Clouds & Silver Linings

May 25, 2021 (MLN): The capital markets remained upbeat during the second session of the week as investor sentiments were optimistic due to the expected growth-centric budget.

The Benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session on Tuesday with a 203.55 point or 0.44 percent gain to close at 46,300.66. The market also gained impetus from a relatively smaller current account deficit of $200million during April 2021.

The Index traded in a range of 324.03 points or 0.70 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 46,371.69 and a low of 46,047.66.

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 53 closed up 43 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 224.83 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 155 points, Cement with 39 points, Food & Personal Care Products with 32 points, Fertilizer with 18 points and Textile Composite with 17 points.

The most points added to the index was by HBL which contributed 68 points followed by UBL with 31 points, UNITY with 31 points, DGKC with 21 points and EFERT with 16 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Power Generation & Distribution with 28 points, Chemical with 23 points, Pharmaceuticals with 17 points, Insurance with 12 points and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 10 points.

The most points taken off the index was by COLG which stripped the index of 27 points followed by HUBC with 19 points, MARI with 15 points, TRG with 10 points and PSO with 8 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 89.26 Million to 677.38 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.12.68 Billion.

Total companies traded were 418 compared to 408 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 232 closed up, 169 closed down while 17 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 42 to 176,976.

Value Traded increased by 3.57 Billion to Rs.23.51 Billion
