March 17, 2022 (MLN): The benchmark KSE100 index skewed towards bearish region today amid lack of major triggers and trading activity.

The range bound activity in bourse reflects lack of investors’ confidence on the back of political uncertainty. Furthermore, PKR also depreciated against the greenback by 64 paisa DoD and closed at Rs180.07 in the interbank market today.

Consequently, the benchmark KSE100 index ended the trading session on Thursday with a 168.46 point or 0.38 percent decline to close at 43,807.23.

The Index traded in a range of 397.61 points or 0.90 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 44,194.26 and a low of 43,796.65.

Of the 89 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 26 closed up 60 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 46.62 million shares.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 51 points, Cement with 22 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 21 points, Technology & Communication with 19 points and Textile Composite with 17 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 21 points followed by HUBC with 20 points, PPL with 18 points, OGDC with 13 points and MCB with 12 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Food & Personal Care Products with 9 points, Commercial Banks with 8 points, Chemical with 2 points, Tobacco with 2 points and Glass & Ceramics with 1 points.

The most points added to the index was by UBL which contributed 11 points followed by NESTLE with 7 points, FFC with 7 points, SYS with 6 points and HBL with 5 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 88.00 Million to 148.51 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.33.27 Billion.

Total companies traded were 335 compared to 354 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 110 closed up, 202 closed down while 23 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 34,752 to 57,767.

Value Traded decreased by 2.79 Billion to Rs.3.00 Billion
