August 25, 2021 (MLN): The capital market on Wednesday witnessed another bearish session due to PKR depreciation and ongoing roll week with the benchmark KSE-100 Index losing 192.81 points or 0.40% to close at 47,635.90-mark.

Today, PKR closed at 166.28 against US Dollar, the lowest close since September 21, 2020, which created uncertainty at the local bourse.

The Cement sector emerged as the worst performer today as it dragged the index down by 68 points, in spite of full support and facilitation to the cement industry by the Finance Minister yesterday. The minister urged representatives of Cement manufacturers to reduce the prices of cement due to its backward and forward integration with the construction sector as a whole.

The Index traded in a range of 299.02 points or 0.63 percent of the previous close, showing an intraday high of 47,916.95 and a low of 47,617.93.

Of the 94 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 29 closed up 63 closed down, while 2 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 128.94 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Cement with 68 points, Miscellaneous with 35 points, Technology & Communication with 26 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 23 points and Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 16 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PSEL which stripped the index of 35 points followed by LUCK with 22 points, TRG with 15 points, DGKC with 15 points and MLCF with 13 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Engineering with 10 points, Automobile Assembler with 8 points, Fertilizer with 4 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 3 points and Textile Weaving with 2 points.

The most points added to the index was by MCB which contributed 11 points followed by ISL with 7 points, FFC with 7 points, MTL with 5 points and BAFL with 5 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 10.33 Million to 384.63 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.17.52 Billion.

Total companies traded were 479 compared to 483 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 177 closed up, 282 closed down while 20 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 4,119 to 128,590.

Value Traded decreased by 2.16 Billion to Rs.11.51 Billion
