PSX Close: KSE-100 index gains 108.93 points

September 01, 2022 (MLN): Following yesterday's momentum, the capital market on Thursday remained positive throughout the session as the benchmark KSE-100 index made an intraday high of 42,666.50 as investors weigh IMF's releasing a $ 1.16bn loan on the revival of EFF bailout program and strong rupee.

Speaking to Mettis Global, Ahsan Mehanti said, "Robust data on Rs489m tax collection for August 2022, and a $160m UN pledge to support flash flood losses played a catalyst role in higher close."

However, the trading activity became dull in the later hours on the back of CPI numbers wherein the inflation for the month of August clocked in at 27.26% YoY- highest since 1975 compared to 24.9% YoY in July 2022 and 8.4% YoY in August 2021.

Accordingly, the KSE100 index ended the trading session with a 108.93 points or 0.26 percent gain to close at 42,460.08.

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 48 closed up 46 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 153.35 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Cement with 83 points, Commercial Banks with 20 points, Technology & Communication with 19 points, Leather & Tanneries with 11 points, and Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 8 points.

The most points added to the index were by CHCC which contributed 21 points followed by LUCK with 19 points, SYS with 18 points, KOHC with 15 points and MARI with 12 points.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Fertilizer with 15 points, Chemical with 7 points, Tobacco with 6 points, Pharmaceuticals with 6 points, and Power Generation & Distribution with 4 points.

The most points taken off the index was by EFERT which stripped the index of 14 points followed by EPCL with 8 points, HBL with 8 points, OGDC with 6 points, and PAKT with 6 points.

All share volume increased by 66.93mn to 248.20mn shares. Market cap increased by Rs9.25 billion.

Total companies traded were 345 compared to 339 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 185 closed up, 132 closed down while 28 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 9,889 to 105,354.

Value traded increased by 0.81bn to Rs8.02bn.
