PKR weakens by 2.4 rupees against greenback

September 14, 2022 (MLN): Riding on the downward trail, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 2.4 rupees against US dollar in today's interbank session as the currency settled the trade at PKR 234.32 compared to the previous closing of PKR 231.92 per USD.

During the session, the rupee traded in a range of 2.75 rupees per USD showing an intraday high bid of 234.5 and an intraday low offer of 232.46 while in the open market, PKR was traded at 237/239 per USD.

Alternatively, the currency gained 1.7 rupees against the Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 270.05 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 271.77 per GBP.

Similarly, PKR's value strengthened by 1.2 rupees against EUR which closed at PKR 234.06 at the interbank today.

On another note, within the money market, the overnight repo rate towards the close of the session was 15.25/15.50 percent, whereas the 1-week rate was 15.15/15.25 percent.

In FYTD, PKR lost 29.47 rupees or 12.58%, while it plummeted by 57.8 rupees or 24.67% against the USD in CYTD, as per data compiled by Mettis Global.

During the last 52 weeks, PKR lost 28.23% against the greenback while reaching its lowest at 239.94 on July 28, 2022, and the highest at 168.17 on September 16, 2021.

Furthermore, the local unit has weakened by 17.22% against EUR when it was highest at 193.75 on March 07, 2022, and lowest at 244.94 on August 01, 2022. While the rupee fell by 15.05% against GBP since its high of 229.398 on September 30, 2021.

In CYTD, the local unit has weakened by 24.67%, 24.57%, 20.82%, 17.67%, 14.71%, 11.76%, and 6.23% against AED, SAR, CHF, CNY, EUR, GBP, and JPY respectively.
