PKR slips by 17 paisa against USD

July 15, 2021 (MLN): After observing appreciation against greenback yesterday, Pakistani rupee (PKR) on Thursday settled 17 paisa lower to close at 159.3 against US Dollar (USD) in an interbank session.

In the previous session, the home unit had closed at PKR 159.13 per USD.

The rupee saw a volatility free session as very little movement was recorded trading in a range of 40 paisa per USD showing an intraday high bid of 159.40 and an intraday Low offer of 159.03.

Within the Open Market, PKR was traded at 159.00/160.00 per USD.

According to the data gathered by Mettis Global, in FY22, the home unit has so far depreciated by PKR 1.75 or 1.10% against the greenback while it increased by around o.53 paisa or 0.34% in CY21 with MTD (month to date) position showing a decrease of 1.10%.

Meanwhile, the currency lost 7 paisa to the Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 220.57 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 220.5 per GBP.

Similarly, PKR's value weakened by 1.1 rupees against EUR which closed at PKR 188.73 at the interbank today.

On another note, within the money market, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an Open Market Operation in which it injected Rs.489.6 billion for 11 days at 7.08 percent.

The overnight repo rate towards close of the session was 7.10/7.25 percent, whereas the 1 week rate was 7.05/7.15 percent.
