PKR extends losses, slips by 68 paisa to 158.19 against USD

June 22, 2021 (MLN): Extending a losing streak for the third straight day, the Pakistani Rupee (PKR) on Tuesday weakened by 68 paisa to end the trade in the interbank session at 158.19 against US Dollar (USD) from the previous day’s closing of PKR 157.51 per USD.

The rupee witnessed a mild activity in intraday trade as it was traded in a range of 85 paisa per USD, showing an intraday high bid of 158.30 and an intraday Low offer of 157.55.

Within the Open Market, PKR was traded at 157.70/158.60 per USD.

According to the data compiled by Mettis Global, the home unit has gained 6.24 percent against the greenback fiscal year-to-date while the appreciation has been 1.04 percent in CY21 with a month-to-date position showing a decrease of 2.39 percent.

 

Meanwhile, the currency lost 1.5 rupees to the Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 219.47 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 218 per GBP.

Similarly, PKR's value weakened by 84 paisa against EUR which closed at PKR 188.16 at the interbank today.

On another note, within the money market, the overnight repo rate towards close of the session was 7.40/7.50 percent, whereas the 1 week rate was 7.05/7.10 percent.
