MPS Preview: High for Longer

PKR depreciates by 27 paisa at interbank trade

May 09, 2019 (MLN): Pakistani rupee (PKR) depreciated by 27 paisa against US Dollar (USD) at today's interbank session as the currency closed the day's trade at PKR 141.39 per USD, against previous session's closing of PKR 141.12 per USD.

Alternatively, the currency gained 38 paisa against Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 183.69 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 184.07 per GBP.

On the other hand, PKR's value weakened by 16 paisa against EUR which closed at PKR 158.19 at the interbank today.

Within the Open Market, PKR was traded at 140.60/142.00 per USD.

Conversely in the money market, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) conducted an Open Market Operation in which it mopped up Rs.1,269.450 billion for 1 day at 10.7 percent.

The overnight repo rate towards close of the session was 10.00/10.25 percent, whereas the 1 week rate was 10.25/10.65 percent.
