MPS Preview: High for Longer

PKR appreciates by 55 paisa at interbank trade

March 29, 2021 (MLN): Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 55 paisa against US Dollar (USD) in today's interbank session as the currency closed the day's trade at PKR 154.04 per USD, against last session's closing of PKR 154.59 per USD.

PKR appreciated to its highest value in almost 22 months with it last being stronger on June 13, 2019 at 152.90 against the dollar.

The rupee saw a little volatility in the session and traded in a range of 39 paisa per USD showing an intraday high bid of 154.45 and an intraday Low offer of 154.08.

Within the Open Market, PKR was traded at 154.00/154.70 per USD.

Meanwhile, the currency gained 17 paisa against the Pound Sterling as the day's closing quote stood at PKR 212.79 per GBP, while the previous session closed at PKR 212.96 per GBP.

Similarly, PKR's value strengthened by 84 paisa against EUR which closed at PKR 181.25 at the interbank today.

On another note, within the money market, the overnight repo rate towards close of the session was 7.75/7.90 percent, whereas the 1 week rate was 7.10/7.25 percent.
