PIA and Serene to operate domestic flights from May 16

May 15, 2020 (MLN): Government will resume domestic flights from May 16 onwards to carry passengers stranded across different parts of the country. PIA and Serene Airlines will make this service available for the stranded passengers as per the notification by the aviation division.

These airlines will operate between five cities; Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.

A final Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for passenger traveling is yet to be issued.

Earlier, the government had extended the suspension of domestic flights up to May 29, 2020 after the COVID-19 outbreak, as part of the precautionary measures aimed at preventing the pandemic spread, revealed the notification by Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Regarding international flights, the Civil Aviation Division has extended the ban on international flights in Pakistan for another 16 days. In the face of the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown, the Civil Aviation Division has issued a notice which says the extension will remain till May 31, 2020.

The government had already imposed a ban on international flights till May 15.

It is pertinent to mention that special flights and chartered planes will be exempted from the ban. Exemptions can be made for Cargo and diplomatic flights.
