Sep 19, 2019 (MLN): Pakistan's trade deficit for 2 months (July-August) FY20 was USD 3.56 billion compared to a deficit of USD 5.98 billion from the corresponding period from FY19.
According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the trade deficit for the month of August 2019 was recorded at USD 1.608 billion compared to a deficit of USD1.954 billion from July 2019 showing an improvement of 17.71 percent.
Compared to August 2018 deficit of USD 2.494 billion, the trade numbers improved by 35.53 percent
Exports decreased by 14.09 percent to USD 1.914 billion compared to USD 2.228 billion in July 2019.
Similarly compared to August 2018 exports decreased by 7.63 percent
Imports in August 2019 decreased by 15.78 percent, clocking in at USD 3.522 billion compared to USD 4.182 billion in July 2019.
Similarly compared to August 2018 imports decreased by 22.86 percent
Overall the 2 month exports stood at USD 4.142 billion compared to USD 4.084 from the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 1.42 percent. However Imports during the period decreased by 23.44 percent to USD 7.704 billion compared to USD 10.063 billion from the same period of FY19.
