Pakistan’s Weekly SPI Increases by 0.39 percent

April 20, 2019 (MLN): The weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the combined group inched up by another 0.39% during the week ended April 18, 2019, whereas SPI, compared to the corresponding period last year (Apr 19, 2018), increased by 12.42%.

The SPI has increased for the third straight week with the Index showing a growth of 1.51% since the start of April.

Weekly report on inflation published by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) has shown that the largest income group (Above Rs.35, 000) has recorded the largest rise in SPI over the year (16.68%), among all other groups.

Compared to corresponding period of last year, the third smallest income group (Q3 – between Rs.12, 001 – Rs.18, 000) recorded the smallest rise in inflation among all other groups, that of 9.38%.

However, as compared to last week, the largest rise in inflation was recorded among the second highest income group (Q4 – Rs.18001-35000) at 0.40%.

Out of the 53 monitored items, the average price of 25 items rose, 6 items registered decline whereas the remaining 22 items recorded no change

The average price of Sona urea currently stands at Rs.1, 822 per 50 kg bag which is 0.04% lower than last week’s price but 28.28% higher than last year.

Meanwhile, Cement price is currently quoted at Rs.590 per 50 kg bag, which is 1.20% lower than last week and 6.66% higher than last year’s price.
