Pakistan observes 42% growth in FDI during August

September 18, 2019 (MLN): Foreign Investment in Pakistan during the month of August, 2019 rose by 42%, from $110.6 million in same period of last year to $156.8 million. This brings the cumulative investment in the first two months of FY2020 to $264 million.

According to the data gathered by State Bank of Pakistan, the entire investment was witnessed in the private sector, wherein $156.8 million came in the form of direct investment and $73.4 million came in the form of portfolios – equity securities to be specific.

Nonetheless, direct investment in the country suffered a decline of 58% over the same period of last year. On the other hand, the country observed investment in portfolio during the month, unlike last year wherein an outflow of $87.4 million from equity markets was witnessed.
