Pak-China to promote second stage of negotiation on FTA

December 13, 2018: China and Pakistan have agreed to build upon the consensus reached between the leadership of two countries during the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to China, a Chinese foreign ministry’s spokesperson said on Thursday.

During the first round of political consultations held in Islamabad, the two sides led by China’s Vice Foreign Minister, Kong Xuanyou and Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua reached many consensuses mainly on the following five aspects.

•    To maintain high-level exchanges.

•    To enhance strategic communications besides enhancing dialogue and consultation at all levels.

•    To enhance economic and trade cooperation and promote the second stage of negotiation on Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

•    To better advance the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and move the flagship project towards high-quality development to enrich industrial cooperation and expand it to other areas of the country.    

•    To keep close communication and coordination on regional and international affairs and jointly uphold common interests.
