Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority has imposed a fine on Shell (SHEL) amounting to Rs 1 Crore and has also asked to give compensation amounts to those passed away and injured in this gory incident on Sunday ahead of Eid.

OGRA has released the investigative report on the Ahmed Pur Shairqia and asked the company to pay Rs 10 Lacs to each of the victims who passed away in this incident while Rs 5 lacs to those who were injured in the blaze.

OGRA findings revealed that the oil tankers carrying the product was not matching the standards specified by the rules of the land.

Moreover the company did not even meet the requirements of the explosive department and fitness certificate. However, the one it was provided by the transporter turned out to be fake certificate.

Beside this, vehicle failed to abide by the standard of rules specified by OGRA as the tanker carrying 50,000 liters of petrol had four axels while according to the rules it should have five axels.

After the tanker spill-over there was no local administration to be seen on the scene. The police response was also very late which led the situation to get out of hand.

Even the National Highway Authority police had not cordoned off the area and they were absent from the scene for a very long period of time.
