February 11, 2022 (MLN): Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has negated news circulated on media on Wednesday, February 09, 2022, regarding the privatization of the transmission function of SNGPL, the company's filing on PSX showed today.

As far as privatization is concerned, no active arrangement is in offing, it clarified.

According to the notice, SNGPL said that it appears that the media has misconceived Third Party Access (TPA) arrangements with privatization.

The country gas market has already been opened up through promulgation of Third-Party Access Rules (TPA) [OGRA Gas (Third Party Access) Rules, 2018] and Gas Network Code with an objective to facilitate the growth of the national gas sector and to promote economic growth by enhancing competition in the gas market.

Through TPA, the private sector has been permitted to import gas and use available and declared gas pipeline capacity/system of existing network operators for transportation of such gas to their consumers by paying transportation tariff under access arrangements between the parties i.e. shippers and transporters. This arrangement will not have any impact on the ownership of the pipeline network, it added.
