March 7, 2019 (MLN): The net purchase of securities within domestic capital markets by foreign investors plunged enormously during the week ended March 1 2019, as a weekly report on Specially Convertible Rupee Accounts (SCRA) shows a net purchase of only Rs.87 million against that of over Rs.1 billion recorded prior week.

Given regional tension that influenced the domestic as well as foreign investors’ confidence, the general activity within these markets dulled noticeably.

The absolute sale of securities during the week was recorded at Rs.6.4 billion, down from Rs.10.8 billion, while the total purchase of securities stood at Rs.6.5 billion against Rs.11.9 billion recorded last week.

Other than this, the inflow of remittances into these accounts stands at Rs.2.5 billion while the outflow is recorded at Rs.3 billion.

However, since the inflow of dividends was Rs.617 million this year, up from only Rs.70 million, the closing balance of SCRA did not drop so dramatically. The figure is recorded at Rs.28.23 billion, down by only Rs.50 million from previous week.
