National Incubation Centres helped startups raise Rs 2.8 billion in investments

The five fully featured National Incubation Centers, established across the country, has so far helped startups raise an investment of about Rs. 2.84 billion and created more than 890 jobs.

National Incubation Centers (NICs) have been established so that budding entrepreneurs and professionals can take advantage of expert mentorship; resources and world-class facilities that can help Pakistan compete with the best of the best.

The National Incubation Centers have been established in five major cities, namely Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Karachi and Quetta.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ignite, Yusuf Hussain has released a comprehensive infographic, which gives an idea about Pakistani startups and their growth so far.

Some of facts and figures regarding their efforts so far have revealed that more than 121 startups have been incubated so far, of which around 39 startups have graduated, and Rs. 2.84 billion in investments have been raised. It has also been learned that these startups have generated Rs. 319 million in revenue and more than 890 jobs have been created so far.

The region-wise breakdown showed that NIC Islamabad was established in February 2017 and it has so far incubated 74 startups which include 23 female founders. It has created more than 450 jobs, helped raise Rs.194 million in investments and revenues of Rs. 212 million.

Similarly, NIC Lahore was established in December 2017 and it has so far incubated 61 startups, including 18 Female Founders. It has helped create more than 359 jobs, raise Rs. 2.64 billion in investments and Rs. 958 million in revenues.

The NIC Peshawar, established in January 2018, has incubated 17 startups with six of them being led by female founders. It has created more than 82 jobs, helped them raise an investment of Rs. 6.5 million and earn revenue of Rs. 11.7 million.

The NIC Karachi, which was established in May 2018, is currently incubating its first batch of startups. Around 252 startups applied to be incubated, 156 pitches were heard and 31 startups were shortlisted in the end.

NIC Quetta, which was established only a while ago in May 2018, is currently selecting its first batch of startups and entrepreneurs.

The basic objective of NICs is to train youth who are looking forward to becoming tech-based entrepreneurs with an aim of dismantling old-fashioned systems and introducing new creative solutions.

The Centres offer talented entrepreneurs and promising start-ups of quality incubation programmes, access to mentor and investor networks as well as technical resources.
