Money supply circulating in the economy rises by 11.6% YoY in December

February 10, 2020 (MLN): The total money supply circulating within the economy during the month of December 2019 stood at around Rs. 22.41 trillion, as per the provisional accounts on Monetary Aggregates maintained by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The money circulating within the economy until the prior month stood at Rs. 21.83 trillion, while until the corresponding period of last year, the figure was Rs. 20.07 trillion. This signified a 2.64% increase over the month and 11.6% increase over the year.  

A breakdown of the overall money supply shows that a total of Rs. 5.26 trillion was circulated as notes while Rs. 9.88 trillion accounted for transferable deposits.  

Apart from this, other deposits amounted to Rs. 3.18 trillion during the month, while Rs. 8.8 billion were circulated as coins.

A total of Rs. 265.8 billion worth of deposits were held with post offices while National Saving Schemes held Rs. 3.8 trillion.
