Money Market: Bank borrowing rises by 8% YoY in Decemeber

January 14, 2019 (MLN): Total amount deposited in Scheduled Banks during December 2018 have summed up to Rs.13.4 trillion, according to formal data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on statement of position of all scheduled banks.

Evidently, the banks’ borrowing is higher by nearly 8% as compared to the deposits made last year (Rs.12.4 trillion), and by around 3% over previous month (Rs.13.1 trillion).

On the flip side, these banks have collectively lent a sum of Rs.7.89 trillion in December, while in December 2017 the advances were Rs.6.53 trillion (+20.8%).

Furthermore, separate data released on the total investment of scheduled banks shows that in December 2018, the investment was Rs.7.6 trillion whereas last year’s investment was higher by Rs.958 billion.

However, as compared to November 2018 the total investments has shown a leap of Rs.2.1 trillion.
