June 25, 2021 (MLN): The total DAP offtake during the month of May 2021 stood at 173 thousand tonnes, depicting an increase of 2.83x times YoY against the offtake of 61 thousand tonnes in May 2020. This increase in the offtake of DAP is due to an upward trend in prices in both domestic and international markets.

According to the monthly report issued by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC), the total availability of DAP during May 2021 was 303 thousand tonnes comprising 135 thousand tonnes inventory, 93 thousand tonnes imported supplies and 75 thousand tonnes of local production. DAP offtake was about 173 thousand tonnes. The closing balance works out to be 131 thousand tonnes.

Province-wise, DAP offtake significantly increased by 232, 96, 246 and 33 percent in Punjab, Sindh, KP and Balochistan, respectively as compared to March 2020.

The cumulative DAP offtake during Kharif 2021 (April-May) was 219 thousand tonnes which inched up by 3.5 percent over the same time frame of the previous season.

OUTLOOK FOR KHARIF 2021

DAP Kharif 2021 started with an opening balance of 55 thousand tonnes. Domestic production during the season is estimated to be 426 thousand tonnes and imported supplies of 676 thousand tonnes. A reasonable quantity of NP, SSP and other phosphatic fertilizers would also be available to meet the demand of Kharif 2021, the report said.
