Market remains under pressure as the index loses over 200 points

Capital markets closed the day’s session in the negative territory as the benchmark KSE – 100 index lost 204 points, or 0.48% to settle at 42,637 points.

The fall in value comes after a failed attempt on the part of investors to cross the 43,000 barrier during the last trading session, and happens to be the second trading session in a row that has ended in the red.

Bound between a range of 263 points, the index marched up to an intraday high of 42,857 points and dropped to a low of 42,594 points during the day.

By the day end, companies within KSE – 100 had traded a total of 87.3 million shares at a value of PKR 6.3 billion. Today's trade volume and its value both fell far below the previous session's total volume and value, which were recorded at 137.7 million and PKR 9.8 billion, respectively.

The companies listed at KSE – 100, that make up the Cement sector, Commercial Banking sector and the Fertilizer sector, made the greatest losses today, thus causing these sectors to collectively take away a sum of 143 points from the index.

92 companies were traded in the KSE – 100 index today, of which 29 companies advanced, 61 companies declined while only 2 companies remained unchanged from its previous closing.

Alternatively, the broader KSE All Share Index lost 123 points to conclude today's session at 30,821 points, 0.4% down from yesterday's closing value.

The index peaked towards an intraday high of 30,983 points and travelling within a range of 173 points, touched a low of 30,809 points.

A total of 163.2 million shares were traded by the companies registered at KSE All Share, at a value of PKR 8 billion.

Chemical sector dominated the volumes today, as the companies within the sector collectively traded 27 million shares today.

Among the 328 companies that traded at the Karachi Stock Exchange today, 113 companies ended the day positively, 189 companies ended the day negatively while 26 companies remained as they were.
