Investment in Pakistan for July to Jan FY18 increases 16.15% to $ 3.905 billion

According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, total foreign investment during the first seven months of fiscal year 2018 increased by more than 77.3% to clock in at $ 3.905 billion. During the cumulative period under review, investment increased by more than $ 1.7 billion against last year’s tally of $ 2.202 billion.

Of the total investment, foreign private investment increased by more than 23.3 percent to $ 1.453 billion during the seven months. Foreign Private Investment composes of direct Inflows – outflows, portfolio investments in debt and equity securities.

Reviewing the cumulative period, Chinese investments in Pakistan continue to grow substantially during the seven months of fiscal year 2018. Total Chinese inflows have crossed the $ 1 billion mark, with United States in the second spot with inflows of $ 632.4 million.

However, China continues to be the leading investor in Pakistan as investments pour in under the umbrella of China Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Furthermore, Foreign Private Investment during the month of January witnessed a phenomenal uptick against last year’s January inflows. The total foreign investment during the month surged by more than 435%, with total clocking in at $ 201.5 million.

Major chunk of which came in the form of Foreign Private investments, which grew by 1614.53% to $ 200 million. Country-wise, China and United States were the leading investors in Pakistan with Chinese investments reaching $ 33.5 million and US investments reaching to $ 102.4 million.
