Investment in equity markets via SCRA shoots up by 108%

July 03, 2020 (MLN): Foreign investors exhibited a profound interest in local equity markets during the departed week, as the purchase of securities via Specially Convertible Rupee Accounts (SCRA) stood at Rs.20.6 billion, which is 108.5 percent higher than the prior week.

According to a weekly report on SCRA released by the State Bank of Pakistan, the gross sale of securities during the week was recorded at Rs.13.9 billion, which is around 71.1 percent higher than the figures recorded last week.  

Consequently, the net purchase of securities for the week ended June 26, 2020 clocked in at Rs.6.63 billion, i.e. around Rs.4.91 billion higher than last week's numbers.

Over the week, the overall purchase of securities rose by Rs.10.7 billion while the net sale of securities increased by Rs.5.79 billion.

Apart from this, the inflow of remittance into these accounts stood at Rs.9.32 billion, while its outflow has been reported at Rs.2.95 billion.

The closing balance of SCRA was recorded at Rs.29.92 billion, which marks a rise of Rs.204.77 million over the week.
