Indonesian President Joko Widodo arrived in Pakistan on Friday on two-day visit, officials said. Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain and the first lady greeted the distinguished guest on their arrival in Islamabad.

A 21-gun salute boomed out when the Indonesian leader, accompanied by the first lady, alighted from his special aircraft. Two children attired in traditional Pakistani dresses presented bouquets to Indonesian President and the first lady.

President Widodo is accompanied by ministers and a large business delegation, a foreign ministry statement has said.  The two countries are also expected to sign agreements to enhance cooperation in several fields.

President Widodo will also address a Joint Session of the Parliament, the statement said. President Widodo will also have talks with Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. President Mamnoon Hussain will hold a state banquet for the visiting dignitary.

This is the first visit of President Widodo to Pakistan. In 2012, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited Pakistan to attend summit of eight developing countries. President Mamnoon Hussain participated in the Extraordinary Summit of Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Palestine and Al Quds Shareef in Jakarta in March 2016.

“President Widodo’s visit will contribute towards strengthening existing fraternal ties between the two countries,” the foreign ministry said.

Indonesia is the 8th largest trading partner of Pakistan and the largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region.  Pakistan’s bilateral trade with Indonesia stands around 2.1 billion US dollars annually.

Pakistan is one of the largest importers of Indonesian palm oil and the foreign ministry says bilateral trade is expected to grow manifold with grant of duty free access to 20 tariff lines from Pakistan for export to Indonesia under the ambit of Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).
