IMF to visit Islamabad to initiate talks on bailout package

October 11, 2018 (MLN): A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will visit Islamabad in the upcoming weeks to initiate discussions for a possible IMF-supported economic program.

The Managing Director of the Fund, Ms. Christine Lagarde has updated the press on her meeting with Minister of Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, Asad Umar, Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Tariq Bajwa, and members of Pakistan’s economic team.

She said that, “During the meeting, the Pakistani delegation requested financial assistance from the IMF to help address Pakistan’s economic challenges.”. She added that the Fund’s team will visit Pakistan soon to hold discussions on that front and the IMF looks forward “to our continuing partnership.”
