Govt decides to import 2.6mn tons of wheat

January 13, 2023 (MLN): The government on Friday decided to import 2.6 million tons of wheat, Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research Chaudhary Tariq Bashir Cheema said.

Total 1.3mn tons of wheat has already reached to Pakistan, and 400,000 tons of wheat is lying at Port.

“In our strategic reserves the country have 1.5mn tons of wheat available for next week, and by March the country will receive more 800,000 tons of wheat”, he added.

Punjab is releasing 21,000 tons of wheat on daily basis while two days back, 26,000 tons of wheat was released.

Recently, Sindh government has increased the rate of per kilogram of wheat from Rs130 to Rs120 down by Rs10 and the prices of chakki, and fine flour were also reduced.

The chakki flour price is reduced from Rs160 to Rs150 per kg and flour mills have been given 97,000 tons of subsidized wheat and 700,500 tones to the chakki owners in Karachi.
