FPCCI to file lawsuit against FBR for non-issuance of refunds

October 03, 2018 (MLN): At an Executive Committee (EC) meeting of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the house has unanimously decided to go into litigation against the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for inordinate delay in issuance of refunds (sales tax, DLTL etc.)

The meeting chaired by President FPCCI Ghazanfar Bilour, was attended by a large number of members from across Pakistan, the most prominent among whom included S.M. Muneer, Former President FPCCI, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President SAARC Chambers of Commerce, Senator Ilyas Bilour, Khalid Tawab, former Vice President FPCCI, Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Arshad Farooq, Shakeel Dhingra and FPCCI Vice Presidents, Waheed Ahmad, Zahid Saeed, Saeeda Bano and Chaudhury Irfan Yusuf.

The Committee discussed various economic issues pertaining to the construction of dams. The House was critical about the FBR and FIA which was harassing the businessmen who had declared the assets under the tax amnesty scheme.

The house also criticized the removal of discrimination between filers and non-filers, as they resolved to ensure that the reversal of privilege to non-filers will be maintained.

Earlier Senior Vice President Syed Mazhar Nasir presented a report on the activities performed by the FPCCI in last three months.

The House appreciated the performance especially that of R&D Department which conducted three roundtable conference on issues like Water Scarcity, Pak-China FTA and SMEs.

Meanwhile FPCCI has issued notice to its member Trade Bodies inviting nominations for the General Body and Executive Committee by Wednesday, 24th October, 2018, upto 5.30 P.Pm. in original at FPCCI Head Office, Karachi

The committee also approved election schedule of FPCCI for the year 2019 and unanimously formed election commission consisting of Zubair Chaya, Abdul Rahsid Abro and Masood Naqi.
