Foreign Investors retract $161 million from capital markets during 1QFY21

October 02, 2020 (MLN): Foreign investors have pulled out a net amount of $161 million from capital markets via Special Convertible Rupee Account (SCRA) during Jul-Sept FY21.

According to the data released by the State Bank of Pakistan, foreign portfolio investors (FPI) extracted a net sum of $118 million from equities while a net outflow of Rs $42 million from the debt segment. This translates into a cumulative net outflow of $161 million during 1QFY21.

Is it pertinent to note that the inflow in the debt market (T-bills and PIBs) during 1QFY21 was recorded at $124 million, wherein foreigners infused $114 million into the Treasury Bills (T-bills).

There was a net outflow of $167 million from the debt markets, wherein all selling by foreign investors was witnessed in T-bills during 1QFY21.

On the other hand, foreigners injected $133 million in equities while retracting $251 million during 1QFY21, resulting in a net outflow of $118 million.
