Foreign Direct Investments into Pakistan fall by $173 million: SBP

September 14, 2018 (MLN): Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) coming into Pakistan during the two months of the current fiscal year have fallen down to $407.8 million, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan on Friday.

During the same period last year, FDI flowing into the country had been recorded at $580.9 billion, which marks an over $173 million reduction in the direct investments being channeled to Pakistan from abroad over this time frame.

FDI during the amount of August has been recorded at $219.5 million, according to provisional figures released by SBP, marking a close to $77 million reduction in such investments over the same month last year.

Compared to the previous month (July 2018), FDI inflows in August have however increased by $31.1 million as in that month FDI inflows were recorded at $188 million, compared to $219 million in August.

The outflow of the foreign direct investments from Pakistan, on the other hand, remains around the same level as the previous month, having fallen by merely $0.8 million, as citizens invest $59.4 million into foreign countries via direct investments in August against $60.2 million in the month before that.

Compared to last year, however, outflows of foreign direct investments leaving Pakistan have increased by $19.3 million in the two months of the current fiscal year.
