Foreign Direct Investment in Pakistan plunges by 17% in 5MFY21

December 16, 2020 (MLN): Pakistan witnessed foreign direct disinvestment of $16 million during the month of November 2020 while it received the net inflows of $317.4 million in the previous month of the same year.

According to the data compiled by the State Bank of Pakistan, FDI dropped by 17% YoY to $717 million during the first five months of the current fiscal year, i.e. July to November, as compared to FDI of $864.4 million reported in the corresponding period last year.

During the month of November, disinvestment of $55.9 million was made within the Foreign Public Investment segment, out of which, disinvestment of $16 million was attributed to Direct investment while $39.9 million disinvestments were made in the Equity Securities.

Within the Direct Investments, there was an inflow of $302 million and an outflow of $318.8 million during the month of November 2020.  

On the other hand, Foreign Public Investment saw a net inflow of $19.6 million, wherein the entire amount was attributed to Debt Securities.
