FM Qureshi meets UN chief, foreign ministers of Egypt, UAE, Nigeria on sidelines of UNGA

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres in New York has urged him to play his role in resolving the lingering Kashmir issue according to the wishes of Kashmiris under the UN resolutions.

The Foreign Minister expressed grave concern over the sufferings of the Kashmiri people at the hands of Indian forces in Occupied Kashmir.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi also discussed with the World Body Chief the first-ever report on Kashmir by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and called for an international probe into the violations of human rights in the held territory.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan's desire to engage India into meaningful dialogue for lasting peace in the region.

He said Pakistan also wants peaceful resolution of Afghan conflict.

Antonio Guterres calling Pakistan a privileged partner of the United Nations, appreciated its lead role as top troop contributor in peacekeeping missions across the world.

In a meeting with Foreign Minister Sameh Hassan Shoukry of the Arab Republic of Egypt on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has expressed Pakistan's desire for deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with Egypt in diverse fields. 

The two Ministers emphasized the need for promoting trade, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries.

They discussed bilateral relations and efforts for strengthening meaningful cooperation in a number of fields using the already existing mechanisms.

The two sides agreed to early convening of the Joint Ministerial Commission in this regard.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister underlined that his country greatly valued its relations with Pakistan.

He expressed his keen desire to work with him for further enhancing the existing cooperation and friendship between Pakistan and Egypt.

He also congratulated Shah Mehmood Qureshi on assuming the office of the Foreign Minister.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had a meeting with Foreign Minister of Niger, Kalla Ankouraou and discussed issues of mutual concern.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi thanked Niger for its principled position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, and its valuable contribution as member of the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir.

Congratulating the Foreign Minister on assumption of office, the Foreign Minister of Niger stated that his government looks forward to work closely with the new government to infuse further momentum to our bilateral relations.

The Ministers agreed that exchange of high level visits will provide a greater strategic momentum to relations between the two countries.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi extended an invitation to Niger Foreign Minister to visit Pakistan, which he consented.

Meanwhile, he also met the Foreign Minister of UAE Sheikh Abdullah bin Ziyad on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly.

Both sides agreed to hold the Joint Ministerial Commission meeting in near future.

The Foreign Minister raised with his counterpart the need to provide more opportunities to Pakistanis in the UAE economy and to benefit from skilled and professional human resource.

He highlighted the investment and economic opportunities in Pakistan and invited UAE corporate sector to benefit from them.

The Foreign Minister also raised the issue of Pakistanis who have been sentenced on petty offenses for their remission and repatriation to Pakistan.
