Fertilizer offtake drops by 6% YoY in July’21

August 25, 2021 (MLN): Total nutrient offtake during the month of July 2021 was about 470 thousand nutrient tonnes, showing a decline of 6 percent over the same timeframe of 2020.

Among the nutrients, nitrogen offtake inched higher by 0.5 percent and potash offtake increased by 49 percent. While the offtake of phosphate decreased by 24.3 percent as compared with the same time frame of the previous year.

According to the latest report by National Fertilizer Development Centre (NFDC), the production of all fertilizer products during July 2021 was about 750 thousand tonnes. Out of this urea production was about 512 thousand tonnes (68.3 percent share in total production). Other products were: DAP 74 thousand tonnes, CAN 70 thousand tonnes, NP 79 thousand tonnes, SSP 9.1 thousand tonnes, SOP 0.2 thousand tonnes and various grades of NPK 6 thousand tonnes. Imported supplies comprised 187 thousand tonnes including 167 thousand tonne of DAP, 12.7 thousand tonnes of SOP, 6.7 thousand tonne of MOP and 0.2 thousand tonne of MAP and AS each during July 2021.

During Kharif 2021, cumulative nutrient offtake (April-July) was 1507 thousand tonnes, which decreased by 8.2 percent over the same time frame of Kharif 2020. Nitrogen offtake decreased by 4.6 percent, while phosphate offtake decreased by 22.4 percent. Potash offtake increased by 24 percent during the same time period of the previous Kharif season.
