FATF to make a decision on Pakistan this Friday

Financial Action Task Force has started to deliberate on Pakistan to review its efforts in combating money laundering and financing of terrorism. The inter-governmental body will announce the decision on Friday via an official release.

According to spokesperson at Financial Action Task Force, deliberations will begin tomorrow (Wednesday) in Paris, France which will go on till Friday – 21st to 23rd February – after which a final decision will be taken “by consensus”.

While responding to a query, Ms. Alexandra Wijmenga – Communications Management Advisor at FATF – informed MG Link News that the decision will be taken by the Plenary at Financial Action Task Force. The plenary includes 34 member jurisdictions and organizations which includes GCC, US, UK, China and India amongst others. According to her, the decision “as indicated in the FATF mandate, will be taken by consensus, not through majority vote.”

The final decision will be communicated via official press release by 11:00 pm PST on Friday, 23rd of February 2018.

The meeting which will be held in Paris, France happens thrice every year in which Financial Action Task Force reviews countries who are accused of not taking necessary steps to curb money laundering, financing of terrorism and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.
