Deposits held by commercial banks grow by 16% YoY

March 10, 2020 (MLN): In the month of February 2020, the total deposits held by commercial banks has increased to Rs 14. 8 trillion against Rs12.8 trillion in the same month of last year, depicting a growth of 16% YoY.

On sequential basis, deposits showed a marginal growth as in January 2020 it stood at Rs 14.67 trillion, revealed latest data issued by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, total advances of commercial banks during the month showed a meagre growth of 4% YoY to Rs 8.21 trillion compared to Rs 7.88 trillion recorded in the same month of 2019. While on monthly basis, advances jumped marginally from Rs8.16 trillion which decreased advances to deposit ratio by 1 ppts from 56% in January 2020 to 55% in February 2020.

On the other hand, total investment by commercial banks during the month displayed a jump of 4%YoY and 1%MoM to Rs 8.72 trillion.
