CPI for healthcare products reports largest spike in over a year

November 6, 2018 (MLN): In October 2018, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Health related products and services, increased by 3.2% over prior month and by 9.2% over October 2017. The health group holds an overall weightage of 2.2% in total CPI.

This has been the largest spike since January 2017, when the CPI had shot up by 6.4%, MoM.

According to recent official data on CPI, released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the cost of availing clinic Doctor’s (MBBS) services has increased the most, showing an increment of 3.4% MoM, and 12.8% YoY.

On a month on month basis, the prices of drugs and medicines have gone up by 3.3%, whereas on a year on year basis, they have recorded an increase of 6.3%.

The price for medical tests has reported the second highest increase, with respect to year on year analysis (+10.7%).
