Covid restrictions remain in Karachi till Feb 21

February 15, 2022 (MLN): The Federal Cabinet has decided to extend already enforced Nonpharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) till February 21, 2022 in cities where covid positivity ratio remains above 10% for at least 3 days.

According to the notification issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), cities/districts with above 10% positivity include Karachi, Hyderabad, Peshawar, Gilgit, Mardan, and Muzaffarabad.

However, COVID-19 curbs will be lifted from February 16 (Wednesday) for cities where the positivity ratio remains under 10% for at least three days, the notice revealed.

The curbs that will be lifted include the resumption of regular classes, indoor gatherings and dine-in.

According to the notice, dine-in will be allowed for fully vaccinated individuals and children under 12 years will be allowed to start normal classes with stringent covid protocols.

Earlier, there was a complete ban on indoor dining and schools were open with 50% attendance for students below the age of 12 years.

Indoor gyms, cinemas, shrines, amusement parks will be open for fully vaccinated individuals, earlier they were open with a 50% capacity for fully vaccinated persons.

The ban on sports like karate, boxing, martial arts, water polo, kabaddi and wrestling will also be lifted.

To note, the next review of NPIs will be carried out on February 22, 2022.
