February 03, 2023 (MLN): The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association reported a 36% decrease in cotton arrivals by February 1st, 2023, primarily due to floods that affected several cotton-growing regions.

Sindh recorded a 47% drop in arrivals to 1.87 million bales, while Punjab saw a 26% decrease to 2.89 million bales.

Despite the decline, textile companies purchased 4.17 million bales and exports bought 4,500 bales.

This shortage in cotton supply may impact the cotton and textile industry in the country.

To address the deficit, the textile industry may need to import around 10 to 12 million bales.

However, analysts say that the scarcity of dollars has made it difficult for textile mills to import cotton, which has in turn affected textile exports from the country.
