Cotton production jumps 17 percent, Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association

Cotton production in the country reached to 8.134 million according to the latest report released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners association showing a jump of 17 percent over the same period last year.

Cotton production in Sindh and Punjab have showed tremendous growth according to arrival report for  November 1, 2017 were out from Sindh reached 3.47 million bales while from Punjab it amounted to 4.65 million bales, registering a jump of  14.9 percent and 18.8 percent respectively.

Textile mills as per seasonal routine and demand made purchases of 5.984 million bales till November 1, 2017 which was higher by almost one million bales of same period corresponding period last year.

Ahsan-ul-Haq Chairman, Cotton Ginners Forum said that weather in October was quite harsh and in country’s history the month was warmest one which hit the yield of the cotton.

The output fell drastically owing to numerous pest attacks and forecast of the country’s weather department fell prey. “The authority is useless and bad omen for the country’s farmers”, he added.

The overall output might reach around 10.5 million bales lower from last year production of 10.7 million bales
