Closing Bell: When the bear’s away, the bulls will play

October 2, 2019 (MLN): The local equity markets maintained their winning stance in today’s session, as the benchmark KSE-100 index gained further 109 points and closed at 32,363-mark.

The highest activity was witnessed in the Cement Sector, as increase in the prices of cement made the valuations of cement stocks appear highly lucrative to investors.

The Index traded in a range of 210.05 points or 0.65 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 32,390.15 and a low of 32,180.10.

Of the 93 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 57 closed up 33 closed down, while 3 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 123.57 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 99 points, Cement with 47 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 18 points, Engineering with 9 points and Textile Composite with 6 points.

The most points added to the index was by HBL which contributed 82 points followed by UBL with 20 points, NBP with 12 points, DGKC with 12 points and BAFL with 11 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 45 points, Fertilizer with 19 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 15 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 8 points and Miscellaneous with 7 points.

The most points taken off the index was by OGDC which stripped the index of 20 points followed by DAWH with 18 points, MCB with 17 points, PPL with 13 points and POL with 12 points.

All Share Volume increased by 0.63 Million to 181.36 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.9.80 Billion.

Total companies traded were 367 compared to 368 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 219 closed up, 132 closed down while 16 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 2,262 to 61,492.

Value Traded increased by 0.42 Billion to Rs.5.42 Billion
