Closing Bell: Tit for Tat

January 14, 2020 (MLN): The Rise and Fall continued to witness on trading floors as today’s session replicated the yesterday’s performance and concluded the day at 43,207 points level, with a loss of 11 points or down by 0.03% from yesterday’s close.  

Benchmark index opened on a positive note, quickly added over 200 points in early trade. However, later on, it lost impetus as investors chose to remain sidelined on account of profit booking.

The Index traded in a range of 371.10 points or 0.86 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 43,468.48 and a low of 43,097.38.

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 40 closed up 52 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 151.13 million shares.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 53 points, Chemical with 21 points, Cement with 20 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 19 points and Food & Personal Care Products with 7 points.

The most points taken off the index was by PPL which stripped the index of 27 points followed by OGDC with 23 points, SNGP with 16 points, COLG with 13 points and MCB with 10 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Fertilizer with 48 points, Commercial Banks with 22 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 17 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 13 points and Automobile Assembler with 13 points.

The most points added to the index was by ENGRO which contributed 45 points followed by UBL with 34 points, HUBC with 23 points, DAWH with 20 points and EFERT with 7 points.

All Share Volume decreased by 116.47 Million to 249.67 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.12.81 Billion.

Total companies traded were 376 compared to 364 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 173 closed up, 187 closed down while 16 remained unchanged.

Total trades decreased by 10,479 to 83,946.

Value Traded decreased by 3.00 Billion to Rs.7.80 Billion
