Closing Bell: Slippery slope

April 27, 2020 (MLN): The capital markets continued the last day’s retreat on the first day of the week, following another day of sell-off as investors’ sentiments were suffered due to mixed earnings of companies and rise in COVID-19 cases, disrupting the domestic economy.

The KSE-100 index lost 491 points i.e. 1.50% lower than the previous closing and settled at 32,314-mark.

The Index remained negative throughout the session touching an intraday low of 32,131.08

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index, 22 closed up 68 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. The total volume traded for the index was 94.39 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 89 points, Cement with 85 points, Commercial Banks with 84 points, Power Generation & Distribution with 59 points and Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 38 points.

The most points taken off the index was by HUBC which stripped the index of 50 points followed by MARI with 44 points, LUCK with 38 points, UBL with 34 points and ENGRO with 31 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Refinery with 10 points, Tobacco with 5 points, Engineering with 4 points, Miscellaneous with 3 points and Automobile Parts & Accessories with 3 points.

The most points added to the index was by PAKT which contributed 14 points followed by FFC with 6 points, BYCO with 6 points, ATRL with 4 points and AGIL with 4 points.

All Share Volume increased by 1.70 Million to 122.28 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.72.85 Billion.

Total companies traded were 328 compared to 332 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 97 closed up, 198 closed down while 33 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 5,718 to 63,626.

Value Traded increased by 0.42 Billion to Rs.5.33 Billion
