Aug 16, 2019 (MNL): Panic selling on investors’ concern over geopolitical situation continued to weigh on stock market today as the Benchmark KSE-100 Index closed at its lowest since September 01, 2014.
The panic selling drove the benchmark index to a five-year low below 28,770 points to close at 28,764.63, after shedding 664 points or 2.26% decline.
The Index remained negative throughout the session touching an intraday low of 28,692.06
Of the 86 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 18 closed up 68 closed down, while 0 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 53.42 million shares.
Sector wise, the index was let down by Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 169 points, Fertilizer with 149 points, Commercial Banks with 100 points, Cement with 63 points and Power Generation & Distribution with 54 points.
The most points taken off the index was by ENGRO which stripped the index of 70 points followed by PPL with 62 points, OGDC with 61 points, FFC with 52 points and LUCK with 48 points.
Sectors propping up the index were Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 4 points, Engineering with 4 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 2 points and Modarabas with 1 points.
The most points added to the index was by DAWH which contributed 5 points followed by ISL with 5 points, MCB with 4 points, BAFL with 4 points and NCL with 3 points.
All Share Volume decreased by 11.20 Million to 65.21 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.103.66 Billion.
Total companies traded were 310 compared to 321 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 81 closed up, 212 closed down while 17 remained unchanged.
Total trades decreased by 3,534 to 29,533.
