Closing Bell: Patchy trade

May 28, 2020 (MLN): Following the pre-Eid profit-taking session, the local bourse witnessed a bear market in today’s volatile session. The KSE-100 Index came off losses of 142 points to close at 33,695-level, as market participants opted to book profits today in the Eid holiday-shortened week.

The Index remained negative throughout the session touching an intraday low of 33,598.61

Of the 95 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 42 closed up 48 closed down, while 5 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 146.54 million shares.

Sector-wise, the index was let down by Commercial Banks with 80 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 59 points, Fertilizer with 24 points, Chemical with 17 points and Power Generation & Distribution with 16 points.

The most points taken off the index was by OGDC which stripped the index of 29 points followed by UBL with 28 points, PPL with 27 points, HBL with 25 points and HUBC with 19 points.

Sectors propping up the index were Pharmaceuticals with 39 points, Technology & Communication with 22 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 6 points, Oil & Gas Marketing Companies with 6 points and Vanaspati & Allied Industries with 5 points.

The most points added to the index were by SEARL which contributed 26 points followed by TRG with 20 points, GLAXO with 14 points, MARI with 9 points and KAPCO with 6 points.

All Share Volume increased by 47.53 Million to 194.74 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.19.84 Billion.

Total companies traded were 335 compared to 340 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 148 closed up, 162 closed down while 25 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 17,008 to 85,945.

Value Traded increased by 1.45 Billion to Rs.7.30 Billion
