Closing Bell: Mysterious Ways

September 10, 2020 (MLN): Following the yesterday’s choppy session, the domestic equities rally rebounded on Thursday, by adding 625 points to the benchmark KSE-100 index and closed the trading at 42, 647 points. This was up by 1.49% compared to yesterday’s closing figures.

The bullish spell was backed by the stable cutoff yields in latest MTB auction coupled with partial recovery in oil price which boosted investor confidence to take new positions. Moreover, ECC’s decision to speed up issuance of 5G licenses to boost FDIs cemented the investors’ confidence, a closing note by Aba Ali Habib Securities highlighted.

The Index remained positive throughout the session touching an intraday high of 42,898.09

Of the 98 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 67 closed up 27 closed down, while 4 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 498.61 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Commercial Banks with 173 points, Cement with 87 points, Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 85 points, Fertilizer with 65 points and Power Generation & Distribution with 58 points.

The most points added to the index was by LUCK which contributed 63 points followed by MCB with 58 points, HUBC with 53 points, PPL with 49 points and PSO with 37 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Technology & Communication with 25 points.

The most points taken off the index was by TRG which stripped the index of 13 points followed by SYS with 12 points, NATF with 9 points, ATLH with 8 points and BAHL with 4 points.

All Share Volume increased by 177.95 Million to 884.96 Million Shares. Market Cap increased by Rs.132.87 Billion.

Total companies traded were 448 compared to 430 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 284 closed up, 147 closed down while 17 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 28,823 to 213,191.

Value Traded increased by 5.84 Billion to Rs.27.16 Billion
