Closing Bell: Index extends gains after a volatile session

December 17, 2019 (MLN): After yesterday’s high spirit of market participants, the benchmark KSE-100 Index closed on a positive note today. However, the stock market continued to oscillate between red and green districts in today's session, and ultimately settled at 41,768 level by gaining 123 points.

A hike in gas tariff proposed by OGRA and the decision of Court against former president Pervez Musharaf dented the investors’ sentiments.

The Index traded in a range of 1035.03 points or 2.49 percent of previous close, showing an intraday high of 42,055.92 and a low of 41,020.89.

Of the 97 traded companies in the KSE100 Index 30 closed up 66 closed down, while 1 remained unchanged. Total volume traded for the index was 253.88 million shares.

Sectors propping up the index were Oil & Gas Exploration Companies with 226 points, Commercial Banks with 100 points, Inv. Banks / Inv. Cos. / Securities Cos. with 50 points, Automobile Parts & Accessories with 13 points and Miscellaneous with 9 points.

The most points added to the index was by PPL which contributed 102 points followed by OGDC with 100 points, HBL with 81 points, DAWH with 53 points and ENGRO with 36 points.

Sector wise, the index was let down by Power Generation & Distribution with 45 points, Tobacco with 38 points, Cement with 36 points, Fertilizer with 24 points and Textile Composite with 20 points.

The most points taken off the index was by FFC which stripped the index of 48 points followed by PAKT with 37 points, HUBC with 37 points, PSO with 21 points and LUCK with 21 points.

All Share Volume increased by 54.50 Million to 412.29 Million Shares. Market Cap decreased by Rs.13.87 Billion.

Total companies traded were 384 compared to 391 from the previous session. Of the scrips traded 130 closed up, 238 closed down while 16 remained unchanged.

Total trades increased by 32,451 to 135,778.

Value Traded increased by 3.62 Billion to Rs.17.61 Billion
