China remains top investor in Pakistan during Jul-Aug FY20

September 18, 2019 (MLN): China remained the biggest investor in Pakistan as net-flows stood at $28.9 million in 2MFY20, decreased by 86%, from $216 million during July-Aug last year, as per the data released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Among other countries, the United Kingdom appeared as the second biggest source of inflows with FDI during July-Aug, 2019, recorded at $30.7 million, which is lower by 57% from $71.52 million. The United States of America came in third with inflows worth $23.6 million, followed by UAE $22million, Malaysia & Sweden $21million, Netherlands $17.4 million and Japan $17.2 million. Whereas inflows figure of Malaysia made the investment climate better in Pakistan by increasing 294% during 2MFY20.

Portfolio investment, representing investment in equity market painted a positive picture. Luxemburg emerged as the biggest source of portfolio investment during July-Aug, 2019 recorded at $78 million as it was negative $42 million which is 285% lower, when compared with July-Aug last year.

The United Kingdom emerged as the second biggest source of foreign portfolio investment during July-Aug, 2019 recorded at $25.1 million, which is higher by 569% from $5.3 million, when compared with July-Aug last year. Hong Kong came in third with value of $8.5 million.
