Central Government Debt increases by 3.89 percent in July 2019

September 13, 2019 (MLN): The total debt of the Pakistan government increased to Rs.33.023 trillion in July 2019, showing an increase of 3.89 percent over June 2019.

According the data published by the State Bank of Pakistan, the total debt increased by Rs.1.237 trillion during the month. The figures for June 2019 were revised by the SBP to Rs.31.786 trillion.

However, the most alarming figure was the Rs.8.33 trillion or 33.75 percent increase of debt over the corresponding period from last year.

Total central government debt in July 2018 stood at Rs.24.69 trillion.   

On a monthly basis, the biggest increase in debt was noted in short term debt, with the amount raised through Treasury Bills showing an increase of Rs.1.279 trillion.

The external debt of the government decreased from 11.055 trillion in June 2019 to 11.017 trillion in July, however, compared to July 2018 the figures increased by Rs.2.78 trillion or 33.81 percent.
