Central Asian delegation visit National Agricultural Research Centre

APP – A high level delegation from Central Asian States visited National Agriculture Research Center in order to find the collaboration among Central Asian States and Pakistan in the fields of agriculture and livestock sectors development.

The delegation was comprising on the members from the Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan had took keen interest in research and development activities being carried out at NARC and discussed the areas of collaborations for the mutual benefits of Pakistan and respective states.

The visit was organized by Centre for Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS) in collaboration with Ministry of National Food Security and Research

Division with an aim to apprise the delegation about agriculture developments, food security and efficient use of natural resources through joint research projects on subjects of common interest such as agricultural growth, farming, food security, international food standards and exchange of relevant scientific literature and other research documents.

Dr. Nadeem Amjad, Director General, Agriculture Engineering Division of Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) informed the briefed the delegation on the respective topic, extensively highlighted the current status of Pakistan’s agricultural industry, challenges,  food security, poultry, livestock  and crop production.

He said that cooperation between Pakistan and Central Asian Countries in the fields of agriculture, food security, food processing, crop production as other potential areas can be developed and explained the government policies for the agricultural industry.

Major General (R) Hafiz Masroor Ahmed, CGSS in his remarks stated that Pakistan is a land of opportunities for the Central Asian Countries due to abundant land and natural resources and its strategic location can serve as a regional hub for trade and economic cooperation.

He further said that PARC is one of the country’s leading entities that work on contributing to the economic progress through science based solutions to agriculture sector.

The Central Asian delegates were also shown the experimental fields where NARC scientists practice their knowledge to develop new technologies and new crop varieties. The Delegation was briefed about the performance of NARC institutes and their contribution in research and development.
